Credit Capture — Earn High School Credit for Specialized Outside Learning

Credit Capture lets students earn real high school credit for specialized, supervised, documented activities completed outside the traditional classroom — dance programs, athletics, music studios, theater, work programs, and other approved structured learning experiences. Your work earns credit on an official Alta transcript that transfers to your current high school.

How Credit Capture works:

Credit Capture is an approved academic process — not a pay-and-receive-credit transaction. Alta reviews every activity against three standards: the work must be specialized, meaning it offers instruction beyond typical classroom curriculum; supervised by a qualified instructor or professional; and documented through hour logs, attendance records, or other verifiable sources.

The three steps to earn Credit Capture credit:

  1. Activity approval — Submit your activity, instructor credentials, and a course description aligned to state academic standards. Alta’s academic team reviews whether the activity meets our standards for specialized learning.
  2. Complete the work — Log a minimum of 120 documented hours across the activity. Keep records (attendance, Strava data, coach verification, etc.) that Alta can verify.
  3. Submit documentation and payment — Submit a written 2–3 page report summarizing your experience, complete the enrollment form, and pay your Credit Capture fee. Alta verifies participation with your instructor or coach, and once confirmed, credit is issued and sent to your current high school.

We’re always adding new preferred programs. If your dance studio, athletic organization, music academy, work program, or other structured activity isn’t yet approved, contact Alta and we’ll start the approval process. Once approved, your program coordinator receives a preferred program coupon code for the current academic year — which all students in your program can use to access the $200 rate.

Who it’s for:

Credit Capture is ideal for students who want to graduate early, shorten their school day, free up more time for core classes, or earn credit for structured work they’re doing outside school. Students don’t need to be enrolled full-time with Alta Independent to earn Credit Capture credit.

Benefits:

Accreditation: Alta Independent is accredited by the Northwest Accreditation Commission (NWAC) through Cognia. Credits earned at Alta are issued on official Alta transcripts and are recognized by other accredited schools, colleges, and universities.
